Zam

verb; zero derivation; clipping
to resurface the ice at an ice rink

The term “zam” as a verb is used by the ice hockey/skating community. It describes the specific function of a machine manufactured by a Zamboni company to resurface the surface of the ice rink. Zam likely originated from a conversion of the Zamboni machine to the action of Zamboni-ing the ice from which it was clipped. The creation of this term rose out of necessity to describe the situation.
Etymology : From Zam(boni) (company’s name)
