zombie

verb; analogy
To take unauthorized control of an internet server for the purposes of distributing one’s own information on it as opposed to what the administrator intended. Adjective: A term to describe a server that has been zombied. The term is a member of specialized computer technology jargon. It seems to be fairly new and is in wide use among people very familiar with computers and networks. The metaphorical link with zombies calls to mind imagery of ghosts, demons, and death, which are negative, dark ideas that intensify the meaning of the term as a negative idea for the target of the attack.

The server probably got zombied.
Etymology : Metaphorical derivation was used to give new meaning to the word zombie, and it was zero-derived into an adjective and verb form.
