Sabermetrics

compounding saber+metric; noun
advanced predictive and evaluative baseball statistics

The use of sabermetrics has become increasingly popular among professional baseball teams in recent years.
Etymology : Saber is a more user-friendly spelling of SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) and metrics are data used to predict and evaluate performance. Over the past couple of decades as small market baseball teams with small budgets have looked for new ways to find bargains, they have turned to sabermetrics to find players who will be both valuable and affordable. The term has increased in popularity after the release of the Moneyball book and movie.
