Weeaboo 2

other word formation type Motivational Root Creation
A person, usually non-Japanese, that is obsessed with Japanese culture and watches a lot of anime, and even goes as far as using these Japanese anime words and terms in real life.

This is a vague word in the sense that it is hard to tell if it is a derogatory term or not. The sibling of this word, ‘Wapanese’ is definitely a derogatory term that is used to describe non-Japanese people who are obsessed with Japanese culture and contents. However, this word is not as widely used anymore, and ‘weeaboo’ seems to have taken over. Tracing back its origins, weeaboo seems to be a motivational root creation that was influenced by the “w” part of ‘Wapanese’. This word was apparently created to censor the word ‘Wapanese’ on certain websites as the term was derogatory, and since then used by people online to mean the exact same thing without getting caught by the automatic swearing filter. ‘Weeaboo’ therefore seems like an ironic word where the intention of its creation meant no harm, but eventually replaced its derogatory sibling to actually sound slightly negative.
Etymology : Motivational root creation from the term ‘Wapanese’
