TECHNOPHOBIC
adjective; blending and clipping
Characterized by a fear of new technology and failure to operate it successfully. Possible reason used: The person wanted to describe her fear of technology in a sophisticated and succinct manner. She did not want to sound whiny. The word was, thus, a clever choice for it summarized a very broad idea in one word. Dictionary entry: Technophobic, Adj. (“Many older adults are technophobic. Technology wasn’t this advanced when they were young and they never got a chance to understand technology like people do these days.”)
Etymology : Clipping and Compounding. Words like claustrophobic, agoraphobic, and homophobic served as model for TECHNOPHOBIC.
