cockblocking

verb participle; compounding rhyming compound
The act of a male helping out a female by obstructing the advances of another male toward her.

This word represents an appropriate instance of metonymy, in which the name of an object (a cock, which is a slang term for penis) is used to represent something with which it is associated (a male). This word was probably coined for lack of a better term, in which a male blocks another male, particularly in a social setting. Its rhyming is catchy and makes it likely to be a lasting neologism that is used frequently.
Etymology : Rhyming compound formed from roots cock and block, in the gerund (-ing) form
