to exaggerate; to stretch the truth out of proportion.
 
Derived from the blending of fantastic and fantasize. The blend may have been created as a way to more strongly suggest an exaggeration in a more scathing way.
Etymology : fantastic 'existing only in imagination', from O.Fr. fantastique + fantasy 'illusory appearance', from O.Fr. fantasie
