cockblock

verb;
Using one’s presence to prevent two people from “hooking up.” My friend left an informal gathering in the lobby of our hall to go to bed as another friend appeared ready to hook up with a girl from our college. Because the girl was leaving to study abroad the next morning, several friends considered any romantic interaction between the two a mistake and took it upon themselves to interfere with such plans (i.e. cockblocking.)

A friend was describing an incident that occurred last month (August 2004) in which she was jokingly reprimanded by friends for not being present to help “cockblock.”
Etymology : cockblock. Compound of cock 'usually vulgar term for a certain anatomical feature' and block 'to make unsuitable for passage or progress by obstruction'
Source : A friend.
