Retcon

clipping; compounding; verb
Short for “retroactive continuity”, in science fiction, the action of changing the interpretation of events already in the canon to fit the new information. Ex: A new book in a series that brings back a character that was assumed to be dead in a previous book.
 
While George was the hero in the last season, this episode clearly retconned him as the villain.
Etymology : Clipping of retroactive, clipping of continuity, compounding of ret and con.
