gangsta (1)

noun; other word formation type egghorn
a member of an urban criminal or street gang, thug.

“I think I saw this gangsta on Main Street last week.”
Etymology : It is an egghorn confused with the original word “gangster”. It is thought that undereducated Americans, predominately who live in projects or ghettos, heard the word gangster and thought it was spelled “gangsta”. It is unclear when this misinterpretation occurred. It is now used by the educated and uneducated alike to represent a street thug or criminal.
