Food nazi

noun; compounding
a person who is preoccupied with healthy eating, and who often polices others’ food choices as well Nazi in this case is used as an adjective; the political Nazis were infamously intolerant of anything that didn’t fit their worldview. A food nazi is as intolerant of anything unhealthy, and usually eats for nutritional value rather than enjoyment of the food. Food nazis tend to be holier-than-thou, and will often make moral judgments about another person’s character based on their choice of food: for example, someone who indulges in something fried, high-fat, high-sugar, or in any other way unhealthy is judged a weak-minded person without the willpower to eat as well as the food nazi. As society becomes more and more preoccupied with body image and fitness, food nazis are becoming more prevalent, and their attitudes are becoming more righteous; to them, it is acceptable to judge people for their weight, since they believe that weight is a direct consequence of the foods you put in your mouth. The term ‘food nazi’ is also an allusion to Seinfeld’s ‘soup nazi’, an inflexible street vendor who denied soup to those who did not follow his strict (and arbitrary) ordering procedures.

One slice of white bread won’t kill you. Stop being a food nazi.
Etymology : Middle English fode, from Old English f da; German, short for Nationalsozialistische deutsche Arbeiter-Partei, National Socialist German Workers' Party.
