- The term, ‘alcy’ refers to one who drinks as much as an alcoholic but in a context where doing so is somewhat accepted. ‘Alcy’ is a pet name for an alcoholic, denoting the fact that in college alcoholism isn’t taken seriously. This term is related to the phrase, ‘you aren’t an alcoholic ‘till you graduate.’ An example of use is, ‘He drinks every night. The kid is an alcy.’
