It is a derivation of the chemical compound Monosodium Glutamate. It is a common salt used in cooking. It is known to have adverse effects in the body by affecting brain growth. In some cases, it is also referred to as a poison. Hence the word poison was blended into the original word to give it comical effect.
Etymology : Mono + sodium + Poison + ate. Mono is a prefix which comes from Greek monos which means stand alone. Sodium is a chemical element named by English scientist Humphry Davy who derived the name from soda. Poison comes from Old French Puison meaning a deadly potion. Ate is a suffix used to represent salts in chemistry. The origin of the word is Latin.
