- What is your major? I’m a Musi!
Musi
noun; clipping
a Rice student majoring in music. At Rice University, "Musi" describes students that are majoring in music. It can be described as a clipping of "Music major". Rice has several words of this sort to describe different majors or courses students choose. This word could have been adopted from the abbreviation used in the course catalogs (ex: MUSI 101). Other examples include BIOS, CHEM, and POLI SCI (Biology, Chemistry, and Political Science). This clipping is a more casual word that is used in informal conversations. If the student were at a formal event or even introducing himself to someone other than a Rice student, they would use "music major" instead of "musi." This word usage is confined to the Rice community. People who do not normally associate with Rice students would find this confusing. Rice students usually limit their use of Rice words outside the hedges.
