A baby born before 37 weeks of being in the womb The term preemie is very widely used. The term doesn’t really have a positive or negative connotation past the danger of being underdeveloped when born. For instance, if someone I knew well told me that they were a preemie, I would only regard it as an interesting fact as opposed to a social stigma.
Etymology : Clipping from premature, from Latin præmaturus “too early”
