DT

noun; other word formation type initialism
Short for "downtown," the area in a city where most nightclubs are located.

This term comes from a compound that has been shortened to form a rhyming initialism. It was probably coined because it was a catchier and shorter way to say downtown.
Etymology : From Old English. Downtown was formed by compounding down with town. According to Wikipedia, the term could have first been coined in New York City, to refer to the original town on the southern tip of Manhattan. DT was formed from the initials of down and town.
