ginge

clipping; noun
a person with red and/or orange hair

clipped version of 'ginger'. The term ginger is a metaphor for the color of hair that a person might have, because ginger is a pinkish, reddish color, similar to the hair of a person the term refers to. Like frotch, it probably evolved as a way to refer to people with red hair similarly to the blonde and brunette refer to pepole with yellow and brown hair respectively. The term was then clipped to make it sound more succinct like the word 'blonde'
Etymology : clipping of the word ginger which comes from old english word gingifer
