Tweet (6)

zero derivation; verb
To post an update to twitter

The term "tweet" is used to describe the act of typing a 140-character message and posting it to your twitter feed. Twitter is a social networking site that allows its users to post tweets (the word can also be used as a noun) that are then put onto twitter for a user's followers to view. Tweeting can be done via computer, smartphone, or text message. The term can be used in a sentence, such as in "I can't believe you tweeted that!" or "I'm going to go and tweet that quote."
Etymology : The word twitter is originally defined as a collection of weak sounds made by birds. Similarly, the word tweet refers to a single weak sound made by a bird. Twitter was created with the logo of a bird, and consequently it makes sense that the word tweet would refer to a single update made among a large collection of updates.
Source : The word tweet is used often in daily life, but in this case, I've heard it throughout the past couple of months with phrases such as "I can't believe you're tweeting." (first heard and recorded 9-12-2011).
