? DiffE

noun clipping and blending
A blended and clipped version of the noun differential equations, one of the most difficult math courses at Rice University. It is a fairly large lecture course, since it is required for many majors.

Because repeatedly writing or saying differential equations can be quite annoying and cumbersome, the phrase was phrase was probably clipped to the much more shorthand Diffe. This allows the word to be more easily used during text messaging, internet chat, and informal conversation. I haven’t heard the term used much outside of Rice University. Words that could have possibly served as analogical models, include, multi(clipped version of multivariable calculus) and econ(clipped version of economics).
Etymology : Blending and clippingDifferential + Equationsto give DiffE
