Grenade

noun zero derivation, metaphor
grenade- a term used to describe an unattractive or unpleasant female, usually when she is with a group of attractive friends.

The term was popularized by the popular television show “Jersey Shore”, in which the characters used to call an unattractive female with a group of her attractive friends a “grenade.” The unattractive female was a grenade in the sense that one of the male cast members of the show would have to make a sacrifice and hook-up with the grenade, so that his friends could hook-up with the other, more attractive females. The sacrifice of one member of the group for the team, evokes imagery of a soldier jumping on top of a grenade thrown across the line to save his comrades, thus leading to the metaphoric formation of the word grenade. The term is most often used by people who are active in the nightclub scene.
Etymology : Zero derivation/metaphor of the noun grenade, a type of bomb
