- There’s a flake just down the road from my house.
flake
noun; blending and clipping
man-made lake, generally found in recent housing developments. The blending of "fake" and "lake" makes sense, because the thing being described is essentially a fake lake; however, this phrase is kind of word to be used often. The sound “fl” is a common enough sound in the English language, and both words contain “-ake,” so blending to yield flake was an easy solution to this problem.
Etymology : clipping/blend of f(ake) + lake
