Related to the word kick, the action one does with his or her leg. People started using the word kicks to mean shoes because when one would kick, another was able to see the bottom of his or her shoes. This relation of shoes and the action of kicking caused people to form the term kicks.
Etymology : Meaning shifted to the movement of ones leg to the shoes on ones feet.
