Chart-topper refers to one of the most popular songs at a given time. Songs are ranked frequently in rankings called charts. The songs that are most highly regarded appear at the top of the chart, hence the term chart-topper.
Etymology : a compound of the two words “chart” and “top”, with the “er” suffix attached to the end.
