socal

noun; blending and clipping
Refers to the physical location and the culture of Southern California.

It is often cumbersome to say the entire name “Southern California”. Therefore, it can be clipped and shortened to “socal”. The mere two syllables make it very easy for one to identify this location and culture in quick conversations.
Etymology : A blending of two clippings. The two clippings are “So” from “Southern “ and “Cal” from “California”. Then, the “so” and “cal” are combined to form a blend of the two original words.
Source : “I come from the socal area.” (during a salutation by a person from Southern California, September 2011)
