verb; blending and clipping; zero derivation
to do homework for a differential equations course

The term ‘diff-e’ was originally used as a noun to refer to a differential equations course. However, through conversion, the term began to refer to the act of calculating and solving a differential equations problem. “Diff-e” was also clipped from the compound word, differential equations, in which ‘diff’ is the clipped version of differential and ‘e’ is the clipped version of equations.” This phenomenon makes it easier to pronounce and discuss in conversation. This term is a technical term used by a specific community consisting of students, especially those majoring in natural sciences or engineering. Many students find the differential equations course difficult or troublesome, and the term ‘diff-e’ is usually used in a negative context expressing their confusion.
