Grammar Nazi

compounding Noun
Someone who is extremely obsessed with criticizing or correcting other people's grammar. The person's tendency is irritating and often unnecessary, such as in casual conversation.
 
Tim: "So I saw Mike at the bar last night and I say to him..." Jim: "Actually, it's 'said', because it happened in the past tense." Tim: "Don't be such a grammar Nazi."
Etymology : The phrase uses the word Nazi to refer to the harsh and oppressive nature of Nazi officers during World War II. Similar terms include "soup Nazi" or "food Nazi".
