Humblebrag

noun; compounding
A statement that could be defended as humble but in reality was spoken only to display one’s superiority over others. Normally, the person making the statement is aware of their excellence and is simply trying to evoke compliments or jealousy from others. The term is formed by a combination of “humble” and “brag”. The term is different than “humble brag” because “humblebrag” has more of a connotation of arrogant self-awareness. While a “humble brag” may be a statement made in such a way as to prevent others from feeling inferior, a “humblebrag” always has self-promoting, pompous intentions.

Yesterday, my roommate was saying how the college coordinator was overwhelmed by the large number of flowers and presents she was getting for birthday. What a huge humblebrag!
