- Wow, is that the new 3-D graphilator?
graphilator
noun; blending and clipping
A graphing calculator. This neologism was coined as a catchy and easier way to say graphing calculator. It is formed by clipping parts from the two words and joining them with a linking i. The resulting clip/blend flows more easily than the separate words and has fewer syllables. The meaning of graphilator is still visible without knowing its origin.
Etymology : graph(ing) + i + (calcu)lator, graph, from L. graphic, from Gr. graphik ‘drawing or writing’ calculator, from L. calculare ‘to reckon.’
