- Must have originally come from the term joint in 1938 to mean simple marijuana cigarette. When rolled into an L, the term was coined simply and literally just from the physical representation of the marijuana cigarette.

An L-joint is the creation of 2 cigarette papers filled with marijuana rolled into the formation of an L so as to put more into the tip and you don’t have to clip too much paper off when you begin smoking.
