D-town

other word formation type Clipping and compounding
; proper noun
Detroit (Dallas)

I’m from Detroit, and I had never heard this term used before. The slang term more closely associated with Detroit is “The D” while “D-Town” is usually associated with Dallas. The person who called Detroit “D-Town” was not someone who was actually from Detroit. He may have used it just because it sounded like a slang term that could be associated with Detroit. This term would probably only be used by people who were neither from Detroit nor Dallas, as they would be more familiar with which slang terms are more commonly used to refer to their respective cities.
Etymology : The first letter of Detroit is compounding with the word town.
