A term used to derogatorily denote people who have a devotion to a subject or hobby (not necessarily anime) to the point of not leaving home.
 
"Dude, are you watching that movie again? You've seen that one at least twenty times! Stop being an otaku."
Etymology : Otaku is the honorific form of the word "taku," which means home in Japanese.
