minimoon

noun; compounding
A short trip a recently married couple takes that lasts about 2-3 days. This word was most likely created because newlyweds needed a term that defined a vacation that lasted shorter than a honeymoon. A honeymoon typically lasts a full week or 10 days. Because of the recession, many married couples could not splurge on their honeymoon, so they had to shorten its days. Combining “mini” and “moon” represents a clear way to illustrate such a vacation.
