hikikomori

noun;
A psychological condition in which a person is afraid to interact with society and therefore stays in his room by himself for months or on end. Hikikomori syndrome mainly affects young Japanese males. The condition does not occur outside of Japan. It is believed that the pressures of high school, cram schools, tests, and university entrance exams, cause some males to just mentally break down. The Japanese meaning of the kanji aptly describe the condition. A person with Hikikomori syndrome will “pull” away from society and then “confine” himself in his room. Therefore, it was more convenient for English speakers to just borrow the word as opposed to making a new one.

The series was basically consists of two main plots. The first one involves Jun's personal battle against Hikikomori syndrome while the other is about the dolls' interest in a strange battle called Alice Game.
Etymology : From Japanese hiku (引く) 'to pull, to draw back' + komoru (篭る) 'to seclude oneself, to be confined in'
