gamertag

noun; compounding
an Xbox Live user account When you sign up for the Xbox Live service, you must create a user account. The targeted selling market for the Xbox 360 is young adult males between the ages of 18 and 27. These people need to feel ‘cool’ and ‘hip’ but not ‘cheesy’. These men play a lot of videogames, and are thus hardcore gamers. The notion of a ‘tag’ brings up the idea of a dog tag from the military, so that people think that you are tough. Therefore, I believe that the people in the marketing department from the Xbox created the word to embody these images.
