Floxxed

adjective; blending
A gene that is surrounded, both upstream and downstream, by the LOX gene.

We targeted the LOX sites of the floxxed gene to create a knockout mouse.
Etymology : A blending of "flanked" and "LOX". Flanked comes from Old Endligh flanc "fleshy part of the side", from Old French flanc, probably from Frankish *hlanca, from PIE root *kleng "to bend, turn". Used metaphorically as a verb "on both flanks" in a military sense in 1540s. LOX itself is a blending of Lysyl Oxidase, which describes the function of the gene. Gene discovered 1991.
