Gameplay

noun; compounding
All aspects of a videogame that the player interacts with, including controls, game mechanics, dialogue, graphics, story, etc.

Bioshock Infinite's gameplay was a lot more developed than its predecessors, due to the addition of more dynamic characters and an entirely new combat mechanism.
Etymology : An exocentric compound of "game" and "play". Game from Old English gamen "game, joy, fun, amusement", from Gothic gaman "participation, communion", from Proto-Germanic *ga- collective prefix and *mann "person". Play from Old English plegan, "move rapidly, occupy or busy oneself, exercise", from West Germanic *plegan "occupy oneself about", from PIE root *dlegh "to engage oneself". Gameplay encompasses more concepts than simply the game or playing it.
