literally

other word formation type; adverb
Used instead of figuratively. People often use literally when in actuality quite the opposite is true, they are merely over-exaggerating. This is not merely a misuse of the word because it has now come to be a well known over-exaggeration and it is acceptable to use literally where figuratively may have previously been the more appropriate choice.

Man, I am literally starving!
Etymology : Literally "in a literal sense," from literal + -ly (2).
