Etymology : Windowless vans are sometimes referred to as “rape vans” because you could easily keep someone locked in the back of them without anyone on the outside noticing. With the heavy coverage of the prosecution of Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, for sexual assault, in the news, the blending of the word “van” and the name “Sandusky” has been used to replace the word “rape van.”
