Extreme level of a certain state of being, usually used to describe an advanced level of intoxication as "belligerently drunk"
 
Widening of the word 'belligerently' in describing one's drunken state from meaning that the person became violent once extremely drunk to just describing the person when extremely drunk, regardless of their level of violence
Etymology : Belligerent – 1570s, from Latin belligerantem (nominative belligerans), past participle of belligerare "to wage war," from bellum "war" (see bellicose) + gerere "to bear, to carry" (see gest). The noun meaning "party or nation at war" is from 1811. (Online Etymology Dictionary)
