sound symbolism; noun
laughter; a humorous moment; a giggle or short outburst of enthusiasm

Although the term is primarily used as a noun, it also often takes form as an interjection and verb. The writer probably coined the word because it was more expressive than laugh or giggle. A possible model for its coinage is "guffaw," another word that existences for a specific type of laughter.
