Blog

noun; blending and clipping
a documented record of occurrences, experiences, or observations written and accessible on the Internet. Initially, the words web and log were combined and weblog was coined December 17, 1997. One hypothesis of the word’s origin is that it was clipped to "blog" in April or May of 1999, when it was supposedly seen broken down as "we blog" on the sidebar of Peter Merholz’s weblog. The usage of the word blog spread during 1999, with the word being further popularized by the near-simultaneous arrival of the first hosted weblog tools (wikipedia). Another likely reason for this clipping of weblog is the easily dismissed ‘hw’ sound which is also characterized as a voiceless ‘w.’ Thus, the stressed sound overpowers and eliminates the ‘hw’ sound in the initial word.

I had such an exciting day that I cannot wait to get on the computer and write about it in my blog.
