Possible reason used: This word is used as a trendy way to describe trendy women. This word was possibly used to provide a stark contrast between those people who shop at outlet malls compared to people who only shop at the most expensive and trendiest stores. This dichotomy is very well served by the use of the word ‘fashionista’ as compared to less colorful descriptions.
