Protandrous

adjective; derivation
In a hermaphroditic animal or plant, describes the development of male organs before the development of female organs.
 
Some species are monoecious, some dioecious, but many are hermaphroditic, most often protandrous, the gonad at first producing sperm and later eggs.
Etymology : Gr. proto-‘first or foremost’ + -androus ‘male’
