to obsess over someone or something similar to how a fan to a popular band or group would act, to be excited and act silly as if in the presence of someone famous when the object obsessed over is in actuality not famous, or something more common. Experienced widening to being a fan of anything or person. The word then underwent creative formation to become a verb specifically for the female gender due to excessive fan behavior displayed by females.

Etymology : From the word “fan” meaning "devotee," (1889, American English, originally of baseball enthusiasts, probably a shortening of fanatic) that experienced widening to being a fan of anything or person. The word then underwent creative formation to become a verb specifically for the female gender due to excessive fan behavior displayed by females.
