Tank [2]

verb; zero derivation; analogy
Usually in videogames, to receive a large amount of damage without much vital repercussions.

Because I had so much armor, I stood in the front and tanked all the damage while my team could do other things.
Etymology : Zero-derivation of the noun tank "an armored vehicle outfitted with heavy weapons", coined in military terms in 1915 due to tanks looking like benzene fuel tanks. Tank "fuel container" from Gujarati tankh "cistern, underground reservoir for water". Interestingly, this term does not refer to the heavy weapons on the tank itself but rather refers to the defensive characteristics of the tank. This is probably because other words referring to dealing large amounts of damage already existed in videogame jargon.
