“Gnar” retains a positive connotation and is usually used in regard to waves, especially in the California region
Etymology : Clipping of the word “gnarly” which, at first, meant “knotted and rugges” but was later used in Surfer slang to describe a dangerous wave.
Source : : A friend went surfing and said that the waves were “gnar” that morning. (10/10/13)
