ship

clipping; verb
when referring to a couple, wanting them to be in a relationship. When referring to a single person or show, worshiping it/him/her.

used most often in social networks like Tumblr or in popular fandoms, “ship” has a double meaning, depending if it refers to a couple or just a singular thing/person. Both are clippings; however, there is a clipping for “relationship” and for “worship.” Note that couples that are shipped are not necessarily heterosexual or homosexual, two heterosexual males can be “shipped” with possible romantic intentions. Romantic intentions are usually implied but not required. This definition is widely accepted among the Tumblr community. According to Wikipedia, the term shipping has actually been used since the 1960s for Kirk and Spock from Star Trek.
Etymology : a clipping for “relationship” or for “worship.”
