Xanger
noun; zero derivation
person who joins Xanga and writes in this online journal This word is just completely made up and comes from the word Xanga, which is just the name of the online journal. Word formation is zero derivation since it changed from a noun (online journal) to an adjective (describes someone who has the journal). Xanger uses the rare letter combination -xa, which is not common in English and adds an -er at the end to refer to a person (ie. blogger - adds '-er' to mean someone who keeps a weblog). Commonly heard these days as teenagers often talk about their fellow xangers and joining a xanger community. This term is mostly heard and known amongst those who use online web journals.
Etymology : Derived from the word Xanga. Name of the journal Xanga is pronounced zân-guh but uses an X instead for aesthetics. It appeals to teenagers who associate an X to a marking on the hand at a nightclub to represent 21 years old or to refer to the drug ecstasy, which was referred to as X. Derived from the name and creator of the journal; adds on common suffix -er to represent someone who does it.
