RT

interjection; other word formation type Initialism
(used as an expression of agreement with a statement)

This term originates from the word retweet. It is not a standard initialism because the word does not form from the initial letters of each word in a phrase, rather it forms from the first letter in each word element: the r in re- and the first t in tweet. On Twitter, a user will retweet (v.) another person’s tweet to signify that he or she likes or agrees with the posted tweet. The initialism for retweet has now expanded beyond its usage on Twitter and is now used in everyday conversation, mostly by teenagers or those that use social media, as an interjection to express liking or agreement with a statement.
Etymology : This term is an initialism of retweet, with the “r” stemming from the prefix re- and the “t” from the beginning letter of the root tweet.
