HO-PO

noun; clipping
Demeaning slang term for Houston Police; similar in meaning to "Po-Po." My mom, as a child of the '60s and '70s, has a healthy distrust of the police. Consequently she enjoys using the term "Po-Po" when at home in Portland to show her disapproval of the police department and act like she’s hip. Therefore, she could not resist the opportunity to make the humorous analogy from the "Po-Po" to the Houston version, "Ho-Po."

While my parents were visiting over Fall Break 2005, my mom called the Houston Police officer we spotted driving alongside us the "Ho-Po."
Etymology : Clipped rhyming compound formed from the words Houston and police
